ClickUp Docs: Big Update!

Wow! ClickUp keeps surprising me regularly. A new version of the Docs function has just been released, and it’s blowing me (a Notion power user) away!
ClickUp Docs: Big Update!

ClickUp has had a Doc function for a long time. But now it has received a major update. And if you know ClickUp, you know: when they tackle a feature, they go all out.

I have some experience with various note-taking apps and Markdown editors myself. Currently, I’m working intensively with Notion. And what can I say? As a Notion user, I feel very at home in ClickUp’s Docs. It looks almost exactly the same. And now it has also caught up in terms of many features.

Slash it!

As in Notion and many other apps, you can capture content in structured sections. There’s a whole menu of possible content blocks for this. This menu appears when you type a slash / in a Doc. Then a pop-up menu opens, listing all options and allowing you to search through them.

… and this is how the menu looks in Notion 🙂

The list of elements not only looks exactly the same as in Notion, it also contains roughly the same options. From lists to headings to embeddings to special elements like code blocks, quotes, or buttons, everything is represented.

Embedding Tasks

You can now also embed ClickUp tasks more easily into Docs by inserting them as a table or list into the Doc – interactively, of course. This means: if I change something about the tasks here in the Doc, I’m also changing the original at the same time.

The New Right Sidebar

A completely new element is the right sidebar, which offers me many important options. Here’s a rough overview first. I will go into more detail about the individual options in subsequent posts.

The right sidebar includes 6 tabs. Particularly interesting are the Relations. Here I can manage links within a Doc page or between different Doc pages. This turns ClickUp Docs into a wiki where I can easily link different content. The hyperlinks function existed before, but it has become much more organized and easier through the new sidebar.

The template function is also interesting. I can set up different templates and then create new pages from them with one click. Useful for meeting minutes, for example.

Also important: The export and import functions. I can export any Doc to HTML, PDF, or Markdown and use it in other apps. I can also import HTML and Markdown. This is great because it allows me to easily get content into and out of ClickUp.

Here are all the tabs of the new right sidebar. As I said, I will discuss them in detail in follow-up posts.

Initial Conclusion

I can’t stop being amazed! What ClickUp is pulling out of its hat is overwhelming. I keep discovering new features and cleverly thought-out functions. Well done, ClickUp!

The new Docs function is perfect for knowledge management within a team. Parallel to the tasks being worked on in ClickUp, you can now just as easily map and link all the documentation around processes, products, and topics in ClickUp. The Docs are available at any time in any browser as well as mobile, and can be selectively shared with clients through permissions.

The interface has been massively simplified by the developers and now has a logical, intuitive structure. It’s also nice to have the option to open the writing editor in fullscreen or even switch to focus mode. This allows you to really concentrate on the content.

I’m excited about the new functions and looking forward to exploring the new Docs mode!
