Do you want to make some numbers look nice quickly? Not in an accounting sense, but visually? Then various tools can help you create an infographic smoothly.
This week I briefly tried out the Data GIF Maker from Google News Labs.
Google News Labs is an initiative by the media giant to provide journalists and media professionals with tools to verify and visualize data. From this initiative, small laboratory projects like this Data GIF Maker occasionally emerge.
One shouldn’t expect too much from the tool at the moment. There are only 3 display forms. You can only enter 3-4 datasets, and within those, only percentage values or absolute numbers. Then you can influence the coloring a little, and that’s it.
However, you can create your animated infographic in 20 seconds. Choose a theme, enter data, set colors, and you’re done.
In the background, an animated GIF is produced, which you can download after a few seconds. At the moment, the creations cannot be saved, and during my attempts, I often had to restart the rendering because the background engine was probably a bit overloaded.
The results, however, are clever and nicely implemented.
If you want a bit more design flexibility, take a quick look at Canva or Infogram.
Update 27.09.19: Canva has an info page specifically about infographics, which I’m happy to link to:
